the internet: The fascination and history of the term cyberspace

From the historical point of view the term cyberspace was coined by William Ford Gibson in his short story “Burning Chrome” (1982), nearly 30 years ago, and later popularized the concept in his debut novel, Neuromancer (1984). William Ford Gibson is an American-Canadian speculative fiction novelist who has been called the “noir prophet” of the cyberpunk subgenre. In the universe of his stories, Gibson created an iconography for the information age before the ubiquity of the Internet in the 1990s. He said in an interview you can find here (at least a part of it) that he was inspired by the video games (such Nintendo consoles) played by children and the only computer he had seen at that time was an Apple, it about the size of a modern time laptop.
